Greens announce strong support for Hilton workers' right to unionize free of harassment, will attend Thursday protest

GLENDALE: The Los Angeles Greens today expressed strong support for Glendale Hilton workers who have become targets of a harassment campaign by the hotel chain after workers announced they were considering starting a union.

The Greens said they will join a major demonstration called by workers, community members and UNITE-HERE this Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Hilton (100 W. Glenoaks, between Central and Brand).

In a memo to employees, the Hilton then announced it would begin "mandatory" one-on-one meetings with workers to "discuss" the union and provide "facts" about unions.

Patrick Meighan, secretary for the Los Angeles City Greens, said Greens back the resolve of the underpaid workers, who are only trying to achieve better working conditions and health care for their families.

"The Glendale Hilton workers show tremendous courage in standing up for a fair wage. We cannot let them stand alone. The L.A. Greens honor that courage, and demand that the Glendale Hilton uphold the workers' right to bargain collectively, free of harassment," said Meighan.
