LA Greens General Meeting - August 17, 2005 7pm

We had introductions. Baby Ada Meighan is in attendance tonight, so this will count as her first Green meeting (three more and she can vote!)

Nici and Dave were vibeswatchers. Michael Rochmes - timekeeper.

Danielle and Denise co-facilitated.

Patrick gave us a LAANE update. There's a secret union campaign, but nothing can be revealed yet. If you're interested, email Patrick. David Holtzman spoke on IRV and we had a number of volunteers sign up to lobby afterwards.

Perias Pillay gave us information about leaving the dependency of our cars for the Metro and busses. He volunteers with transit people (transitpeople.org) and takes children every Friday to a destination via subway. Benefits, as we know: environmental, economic, time. Rapid busses are even timed with the lights - so the signals know when they are coming. He will lead a trip for us on red and goldline if we're interested. Also mental health reasons for riding subway/bus.

Byron De Lear reported on Tulsa, Oklahoma GPUS meeting - different factions and discussion of the GDI proposal to use proportional representation in the Green Party.

Byron announced he is running against Howard Berman for the Congressional Seat (District 28) in 2006! He wanted us to be the first to know, so he didn't make it official in Tulsa. Thank you Byron! We're honored.

Danielle Mead also announced she is running for the open (formerly Paul Koretz) Assembly seat next year. Congratulations Danielle! Yeahhhhh!!!

Treasurer report: $3,042.92 in the bank - but $2,000 is for our scholarship program.

Possible Mediators for our new three person mediator position: Sally Marr, Peter Dudar, Jim Bean, Ellen Maisen, Lisa Scott, Perias Pillay. Lisa and Perias volunteered on the spot - but we don’t if the others are interested.

Event Chair and Goddess Linda Piera Avila suggested two events for November meeting: indigenous person's event, possibly all women. Or a women's health/single payer event. We will vote next month so email Linda with any ideas or any new suggestions.

Announcements: New member from Louisiana said Greens now have ballot access there. Westside Greens have a sustainability club at Clover Park meeting September 10, 2005 at 10am.

Meeting adjourned: 9pm
