2.Plenary Report (10 mins)
Plenary is the state Green Party meeting. “Plenary” is the Latin word for “general.” SB840 Health Care Act was endorsed at the meeting. Bill sponsored by Sheila Kuehl in State Senate. Linda would like the LA Greens to become endorsers for SB840. It did pass in the Senate, but the State Assembly is going to be another story. #1 reason for bankruptcies in America is medical bills. Ya gotta have a job just to get health care! Proposal establishing cash reserve passed. Peter Camejo’s proposal for internal democracy (sorry, missed it), delegate selection to nat’l convention (70% for), & never endorsing a Dem or Rep. (62% for). Non-binding results within state party. A positive thing that came out of it: support for California Fair Wage proposal. Elections: Larry Cafiero state liaison. Two platform planks tabled. Election of at-large GPCA coordinating committee members. Treasurer elected: Kenny Mostern, who beat Mike Wyman. Linda did a skit that people liked. Mike: in August, Campaigns & Candidates will have a regional strategy session. Free Santos Reyes (sp?) From the Westside Greens: Russell Sydney’s electric scooter rides. Will: Alameda county actually has more Greens. Will: things weren’t all rosy at the plenary. Financial controversy, quibbling over delegates. Will “stayed in the kitchen.” Michael: we should start doing outreach to locals that don’t have meetings. Actually ran 15 mins.
3.Heritage Tree Act (3 mins)
Heritage Tree Preservation Act will save old growth trees (the last 1%.) Nearly passed last year. Didn’t make it through the Assembly. Big fundraiser last night for it. NRDC, Sierra Club, Green Party, Pierce Brosnan, James Taylor etc. all endorse it. It’s wending its way through Sacramento again.
4.Hotel Workers’ Strike (5 mins)
Hotel workers went on strike Thursday at 5 am, picketed WeHo Hyatt. The Greens have been, unusually, on top of this issue. 675 Parkview, tomorrow @5 pm. Victory celebration! DJ Mario! Yay Villaraigosa! Fabio Nuñez. John Wenger thinks we should be registering people Green at this party, but no one can go! Alas.
5.Lotus Festival (5 mins)
Lisa Taylor asked that we get volunteers for July 9 and July 10 for tabling at the Lotus Festival. We’re tabling Saturday July 9 (8:00 am to 5:00 pm.) Table!
