About Us
What Are the Los Angeles Greens?
The Los Angeles Greens are a grassroots political organization that adheres to the Ten Key Values of the Green Party of California: Ecological Wisdom; Grassroots Democracy; Social Justice; Nonviolence; Decentralization; Community Based Economics; Feminism; Respect for Diversity; Global Responsibility; and Sustainability.
The L.A. Greens also strengthen and expand the California Green Party and the Green Party of the United States by electing Green Party candidates, passing initiatives that further the Ten Key Values, educating the public on Green Party issues, and other relevant activities.
What is the Green Party?
The Green Party is an international movement of political parties that promote environmental sustainability, peace, respect for diversity, and social justice. In California, the values of the party are spelled out in our 10 Key Values and state platform. Since gaining ballot status in 1991, California Greenshave run as candidates for everything from city council and school board to president and governor.
The Los Angeles Greens are a "local" of the Green Party of California (GPCA). Locals, while not formally affiliated with the state party, form its grassroots.
Membership
Members of the Los Angeles Greens must be registered to vote as Greens (or if they are ineligible to register to vote, state that they would do so), and attend four of our meetings within the past 12 months. We do not have a geographical residency requirement for membership.
Meetings
We meet on the third Wednesday of every month at the Peace Center on 3rd Street near Crescent Heights. Children are welcome!
Steering Committee
The Los Angeles Greens have several elected officers, including two co-facilitators, as spelled out in our bylaws.
